The music of the great Norwegian composer, Edward Grieg, is steeped in the traditions of his native land. A proud nationalist, he made a huge effort to research and collect the folk melodies and rhythms passed down through the generations through the songs and dances of Scandinavia. Almost all of his music is influenced by these folk traditions. Through the snappy dance rhythms from peasant wedding celebrations, and haunting tunes that evoke the mist on the fjords, we celebrate this true Romantic composer with a collection of well known and not so well known works, all of them influenced by the music and culture of the Norwegian people. Fiddle tunes and sophisticated music with the Alcan string quartet, folk songs with singing by Christianne Rushton; Graham Thompson and Zorana Sadiq (shown above). Delightful Norwegian dances for piano duet with Peter Tiefenbach and Robert Kortgaard. Our kitchen party will have your toes tapping in celebration of this magnificent composer. $25
